Walker FSR · Kakwa Park Prince George-Valemount Take two minutes

What happens to the five bridges on the road to Kakwa Park?

Five bridges on Walker FSR, the only B.C. road to Kakwa Park, are rated unsafe for any vehicle, and the road has been barricaded near kilometre 52 since 29 July. The email below is already written. Press Send, add your name, and read the evidence in the editorial.

Subject: Walker FSR: what happens to the five bridges rated at 0 tonnes?

Hello,

I am writing about Walker Forest Service Road (FSR 3112), the British Columbia road to Kakwa Provincial Park.

On 22 July 2026 the Prince George Natural Resource District closed the road near kilometre 52 because of unsafe bridges, and barricaded it on 29 July. Its notice lists five bridges, at 56.1, 61.5, 65.4, 67.5 and 69.2 km, as downrated to 0 tonnes.

In 2023 the same district repaired bridges on this road that were rated at zero, and reopened the road beyond kilometre 37 for the winter. This time no plan has been published.

I would like answers to four questions:

1. Will the five bridges be repaired, replaced or removed, and when will that decision be made public?

2. Will the Ministry publish the inspection findings behind the July downrating, and the cost of repairing, replacing and removing each bridge?

3. Will the Ministry commit that no bridge on Walker FSR is removed, and no part of the road deactivated, before the public and BC Parks have had a chance to comment?

4. Will BC Parks update its Kakwa Park advisory so that visitors know the road is barricaded? Its 2006 management plan promised to do that if the road stopped being maintained.

I understand that a bridge closure for safety is an engineering decision. What happens to the bridges next is a decision about funding and public access, and I would like to know how it will be made.

To the candidates in Prince George-Valemount, who are copied: if you are elected, what will you do to keep road access to Kakwa Park open from British Columbia?

Thank you.

If pressing Send does nothing, your browser may not have an email app attached — common on phones with webmail only. Use Copy the text and Copy the addresses, then paste both into Gmail, Outlook or whatever you use.

The candidates are blind-copied. The ministers and the district office are addressed directly. All four Prince George-Valemount candidates are copied the same way, so no recipient sees the others’ addresses.

Change the wording if you want to. A letter in your own words carries more weight than a hundred identical ones. The part worth keeping is the question itself.

Have records about the road? Inspection notices, photographs of the bridges or the barricade, or correspondence with the district or BC Parks can go to contact@backcountry.cx. Send only what you have the right to share.
