About · The Backcountry Coalition
Who is behind this
The Backcountry Coalition is a private research group working on public land use issues that affect any recreational user group, mostly within British Columbia, at this time.
The Coalition was founded in British Columbia. It exists to do the work volunteer, membership-first boards rarely have capacity for: pulling public records, filing requests, and publishing what the documents show.
We use publicly available information to do research on issues of public interest and in turn hold public servants accountable for maintaining access to public land.
Rady Creek is our first file. But we promise, it will not be our last.
Public land access, defended with public records.
MethodHow we work
We publish the record itself — the letter, the tender, the audit — not a summary of it, so anyone can check what it actually says. Each file lists every record behind it and where that record came from — released under freedom-of-information, forwarded by the people who received them, or already public — and any figure we work out ourselves is labelled as ours and shown with the arithmetic that produced it.
1
Files published so far. One subject, documented end to end rather than summarised.
30
Source documents published with it, every one carrying a line that says where it came from.
Counted from the published source register, 11 September 2026.
15
Information requests written and published in full before they are filed — the wording, the file numbers, the records asked for.
Whatever comes back is published, whichever way it cuts.
Where a government figure and the document underneath it disagree, we publish both. We show our own count, say how we arrived at it, name it as ours, and leave the reader to judge it.
Corrections
If you find an error, tell us. We will correct it and log the correction in the open — on the page it belongs to, dated, with the wording it replaced still readable.
